Joie Chen
Joie Chen is Senior Adviser and Faculty of the Poynter Institute based in Washington, D.C. Chen may be best known for her decade as an anchor at CNN and CNN International. She later served as a D.C.-based correspondent for CBS News, covering the White House and Capitol Hill for the network. Chen was the anchor and senior correspondent for Al Jazeera America’s flagship program “America Tonight”. Her work has been honored with national Emmys, Cable Ace, and numerous other awards.
At Poynter, Chen leads strategic initiatives and develops partnerships for the world’s leading journalism institute. She is an instructor in Poynter’s inclusive journalism and leadership programs, and leads events focused on the future of the newsroom.
Prior to joining Poynter, she served her alma mater, Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, as director of its Washington, D.C. program.
