R. David Edelman

R. David Edelman is Director of the Project on Technology, the Economy, & National Security, part of the MIT Internet Policy Research Initiative. At MIT, Dr. Edelman holds joint appointments in the Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence Lab (CSAIL) and the Center for International Studies; teaches in the Department of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science; and leads a team of researchers examining the governance of cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and global technology supply chains. He served six years in the Obama White House, most recently as Special Assistant to the President for Economic and Technology Policy at the National Economic Council (NEC) and the Office of Science & Technology Policy (OSTP). Previously, he served as the first Director for International Cyber Policy on the National Security Council (NSC), and before that, helped found the State Department’s Office of Cyber Affairs.

Dr. Edelman holds a B.A. from Yale as well as Master’s and Doctoral degrees from Oxford, where his dissertation was among the first to examine the intersection of cybersecurity and international relations.

Time

“Time” defines the approximate time it will take to implement the tool, including installation and setup. Based on your system and experience, the time may be longer or shorter than the time estimated.

Tool Levels

Level 1

Requires minimal technical knowledge to complete setup. Users with little-to-no familiarity with computer systems will still easily be able to implement Level 1 tools.

Level 2

Requires basic technical understanding of operating systems and settings controls. Users with a basic understanding will be able to easily implement Level 2 tools.

Level 3

Requires an intermediate level of understanding to implement. Users will need an intermediate understanding of computer systems and code languages.

Level 4

Requires advanced levels of understanding of computer systems, settings and code languages. Users will need experience with advanced system configurations.
